I Dont Want Dowry

Dowries are of two kinds. In one case Bridegroom pays certain amount to the Bride’s family. Second one goes the other way; Bride’s family gives some amount to the Bride.
In Telugu the first one is called KanyaSulkam, where usually a rich old man used to buy a bride from a poor family for his own reasons. Thanks to the reforms and initiatives of erstwhile British rulers and few Indian Greats like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Kandukuri Veresalingam Panthulu etc., because of which this has almost been eradicated from the society these days.
Senond one VaraKatnam : This is the form of dowry we are aware of today. We see and read about many incidents happening around us, where the lady will be harassed to bring more money from their parents often leading to some undesirable consequences.Ok leave about all those minuses. I personally attribute the financial state of the family is the main reason behind this(of course the character of the gent to come extent). Now things seems to be changing. Men and Women are competing right from School, College to jobs. The IT and ITES trend has changed the scenario. During the last decade the average middle class family people started their journey towards the high class. This is changing the their attitudes. Money is no longer the primary concern to at least some of them. If you are one of them or if you are looking for one of them, I have news for you here. Here comes a portal called idontwantdowry ,where you can express your view and find like-minded people there.

My Story

Hello All,
I want to take this blogsite as an oppurtunity to express my concern to the chittoor public and the concerned officials.Long back I was contructed in the heart of the town, very behind the NTR Statue with a good intention that I will bring glamour to this place.I really appreciated the concerned officials inside. All the joy faded soon, as they left me Black andWhite here, without proper painting and gardening. As no one worried about me , people started usin me as Men's room during night times.
I sincerely request the concerned officials to pay due attention towards me so that ,I can add colour to this place and town.
Yours

Iruvaram Bridge

Iruvaram Bridge which was constructed over the chittoor river has been a primary line of connection for the people of Chittoor to places like Palamaner,Madanapalli,Bangalore,Gudiyattam,Paradarami etc.,One of the plates of this 73-year-old bridge collapsed last year, when an overweight truck went over it. The incident claimed few lives including the truck driver and others who were playing under the Bridge. Though the officials were aware of the situation of the ageing bridge, they took little or no steps in disallowing heavy trucks running over it, except placing a warning board. The sad news is this incident happened just after the assembly and Parliamentary polls , so as usual we cannot expect much from the rulers side , if we have to go by the past record. Government didn’t seem to initiate any steps for the re-erecting the structure. So people had to use either longer Madras bypass road or shorter Iruvaram street road. For many reasons other than big vehicles like Volvo buses and heavy trucks, preferred to use this Iruvaram street road. The Iruvaram road, which is at an angle of around 45 degrees to the Bangalore-Madras bye pass road, first vehicles have to occupy the whole road and adjust itself several times to and fro before entering in to this street road. After entering the single lane narrow road welcomes us with a lot of potholes, poor lighting etc., making journey least happy. Even the residents of this locality feel difficulty to walk in this road because of the traffic. After a few months of this sad story a patch of curve road was put here for easy entrance. After another few months one or two streetlights were planted. It’s close to one and half year now and no steps seemed to be taken to restore the bridge. Last week When I was going by this street, observed some work is being done to widen the Iruvaram road.To let this happen the bumpy mud road beside the fallen bridge is being used.Though the expansion of road is a good sign, Is this the right solution, does this solve the actual problem? One more point I wonder is even Media seems to be little concerned about this, and I see no updates regarding this since then.
In this scenario I believe the people of this town are deserve to get answers to the following questions from the concerned officials and leaders:
1) What are the developments taken so far towards the re-construction of this Bridge?
2) What are the problems that are hindering the process?
3)Will restoration of this bridge need another assembly or Parliamentary polls?
4)From the details written on two granite plates I can see the construction of this tool roughly 18 months. If with the then technology it took 18 months , why is it taking so long time now?
History Of the Bridge:I collected the following information from two Granite plates cemented to the walls of the Bridge. From the matter I saw on plates , I can say the Bridge was constructed during the then Madras Presidency.Total Cost Of Projest : Rupees 94,500.Construction Work Commenced in : September 1931.Construction Work Completed in : March 1933.Bridge was Opened for Public Use on 9th April 1933 ,by the then Raja of Bobbili "Raja Sri Rava SwethaChalapathi RamaKrishna RangaRao Bahadur" who is also the Chief Minister to the Govt of Madras.

LokSatta

It was Monday morning , I was very much excited when I saw that article on the front page of Eenadu. It says JayaPrakash Narayan lead Loksatta is soon going to start a Political Party. Some of the sentences in the article touched my heart. I got very much disturbed and excited. I am not very happy with the software job I am doing now. I used to believe I should not confine to these kinds of jobs like many. I strongly believe I should use all the knowledge I gained from my experiences and education serve my mother land. For this either I need huge money or I should be in politics. First doesn’t seem to possible in the near future. So the other go is Politics.

The words from the "Charcha Patram" politics are no longer confined to Big shots or criminal people, encouraged me. After 3 days of thinking I finally decided I should be join Loksatta.Today I called Chittoor Zilla Office located in Tirupathi. The voice on the other side promptly received me and I said I will come to the office on Saturday. Other details I got from the 2 minute brief talk with the person is, life term membership costs 20Rs and soon they are going to start branch offices in every place.
From the newspaper info I came to know, Party will be officially started on October 2nd.
My main point in joining the party is "Development should happen in a distributed manner"

My concern "Development should happen in a distributed manner":
We all know villages and towns occupy majority of the population in India. Everyone loves their Birth Places, and likes to lead their life there. But as we grow up we are forced to go to cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad to get a job. But how many of them like to live in those places leaving their homelands.
I observed many of me friends in Bangalore one day or other feel depressed for leaving their homelands. But most of them will not dare to think moving away from Bangalore and settling in home Places. They continue to lead their lives in the same mood.
Now coming to the villages, I observed in many villages, the only people living there are either old people (Who are deserted by their children) or Uneducated youth or people who rich from the grandfathers’ days. If this sort of trend continues many villages will soon wear desert attire.
What is the prime reason behind this...?
Are new jobs not getting created - No
is country not Developing - No
what else ....I feel Development is not happening in a distribute manner. It’s just confining to major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. If
development happens uniformly, jobs will be created uniformly. Every place will have its own uniqueness which can be used to create employment.
For example coming to my home Town Chittoor, it is a drought area, for the past several years there was no rainfall. Still I believe there are few plus points to this place.
1) Its proximity to two major cities Chennai and Bangalore. We need to woo and attract small scale and medium scale industries to setup here by offering them some special packages.
2) There are several Temples in around Chittoor like Tirumala, Tirupathi, Kanipakam, Sholingar and Tiruttani which are already very famous. Also some more temples

like Mogili Eeswaralyam, NTR Jalasayam, Vepanjaeri, and Deer Park in Chittoor etc should be developed and the local govt/Muncipality should take the responsibility of popularizing them. Thinking how it will generate revenue and employment?
First it will increase the traffic, which will generate revenue to Bus, Auto and Taxi people.
Second Govt can take enough measures to open stalls near Temples or Tourist places where hand made goods or toys can be sold. The job of making these toys can be given to women residing in some villages.
The local governments should work as a company or an organization for the development of the area by competing with other places.
One point to remember is today’s Bangalore or Hyderabad aren’t that big by birth, they have evolved aver a period of time. Likewise today’s Chittoor can grow to a big city if needed measures are taken. I am not blaming development is not happening or government is not taking enough measures to develop all the places uniformly. What I say is this development can happen at a faster pace. For this to happen the local bodies should also take initiatives to develop their place rather than depending too much on the centralized government.

The idea I expressed here may not be as effective as I have in my mind, but I believe, Distributed development should happen for this nation to become a developed country.
I request you all to express your concerns or comments , so that I can consolidate and take them before Loksatta whenver I get chance to meet them.
