ISUZU pick-up truck manufacturing unit at Sri City in Chittoor?

Tokyo based ISUZU motors expressed interest in setting up pickup truck manufacturing unit in Chittoor district.

The information has come as outcome of N. Chandrababu Naidu’s aggressive ‘Make in AP’ sales pitch during his ongoing visit to Japan.

Pickup trucks are light motor vehicles with an open-top, rear cargo area. Farmers can use these trucks to carry vegetables to town without depending on expensive third party vehicles.
Pick up trucks are very popular in USA, Australia and off late catching up Thailand, India and other developing countries.

Volvo in Chittoor ?

It seems , the Swedan based Volvo is looking into options of setting up an offshore body building unit near Chittoor.Presently, Volvo has outsourced the job of body Building to the Bangalore based company, Jaico Automobiles (Azad Group).Recently Volvo Bus Corporation and Jaico Automobiles (Azad Group) have come to an aggrement to start a joint company in India for the production of bus bodies based on Volvo Buses’ body technology.Now they are in the process of finding the location to setup the plant.As part of it they are discussing with various Indian Governments.
In this scenario the Andhra Pradesh Minister for Transport and Cooperation Kanna Lakshminarayana in a press meet said they have invited Volvo to setup the plant near Chittoor.APSRTC and KSRTC being two big clients for this Sweden company,it might be focussing to setup plant in one of this states.I feel , Volvo presenlty having its plant midway to Kolar and Bangalore, should keenly look towards Chittoor due to its dual advantage of Geographical proximity to Chennai,Bangalore and availability of labour at low cost here.

Godrej to Acquire Nutrine

Mumbai-based Godrej Foods is all set to acquire the Chittoor based Nutrine Confectionery for about Rs 270 crore.It is said to be the largest single brand acquisition in the FMCG industry.The deal marks a complete exit from the sugar boiled confectionery business for the descendants of B Venkatrama Reddy, who founded the company in 1952. Nutrine has since then grown into a household name, especially in the southern region of the country.

The company Profile as per the official website says

"COMPANY LIMITED was founded in 1952, by Shri B.Venkatarama Reddy, a graduate from National University, Adyar. The Chancellor of this University then, was Shri.Rabindranath Tagore, Nobel Laureate. From a small-scale unit manufacturing only candies in the early 60's, NUTRINE CONFECTIONERY has grown to be a multi-product, multi-market giant and continues to be the single largest manufacturer of confectionery and toffees in India since 1980."

Unlike other manufacturers that are generally located in big cities , it is located in a small town Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh bordering Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.About its location in Chittoor the website says
Chittoor district lies in an advantageous horticultural belt where tropical fruits like banana, mango and papaya grow in abundance. We also get very good crops of lime, tomatoes etc. Vegetable and fruit processing are therefore natural developments in this region and NUTRINE has been in the forefront of these developmental activities.
