The much awaited electrification of Tirupathi-Chittoor-Katpadi line is signaled open on December 8 by the Railway Minister, Shri Lalu Prasad Yadav.The whole project includes gauge conversion[meter gauge to broad] and electrification.Gauge conversion was completed two years back.But all the trains has to change the engines from electric to diesel or vice versa at either Renigunta or Katpadi.Electrification of this line is important because all the North train traveling South had to take Renigunta -Tiruttani - Arakonam - Katpadi.Now most of them will take Renigunta - Tirupati - Chittoor- Katpadi.This will solidly reduce the journey time by two hours.
Several local represented their constituencies for various facilities on this flagging occasion.
Chittoor MP, Sri D.K Audikesavulu Naidu pitched for augmenting the goods shed facilities at Chittoor and Tirupathi.Chittoor RajyaSabha member, Shri Durga Ramakrishna requested for a daily shuttle between Chittoor and Chennai.other dignitaries Tirupati MP Chintha Mohan,Tirupati MLA M. Venkatramana,Minister for Medical Education, Galla Aruna Kumari, Minister for Law and IT Chenga Reddy and Union Minister of State for Health Panabaka Lakshmi placed their requests before the Railway Minister.
