The premises being used by the chittoor revenue department and the adjoining jail complete 100 years now. It was constructed in 1905 by the British people primarily to prison people arrested in and around North Tamilnadu. Then Chittoor was in North Arcot district of Madras state.
Amazing construction
All the rooms are constructed with good ventilation. The Burma wood used for making the furniture is live even today with the same freshness. The meshes and grills were imported from Germany. Interesting point here is they didn’t use welding to join iron rods for any of the grills. The materials used for construction, care taken in the quality amazes even the modern engineers and it signifies the British Darabar.Since then the campus is being used with no or little modifications.
History
By 1840 Britishers were successful in totally occupying the Chittoor town. They made it one of the key areas in training their military forces.
